"How you doin'?"

Sunday after church, we headed for the drive through at Taco Bell. Yes, I know. Nutritious Sunday lunch, huh? Yeah, yeah, yeah. Anyway... here's the exchange between us and the guy on the other side of the microphone:

Guy: "Hey. Welcome to Taco Bell. How you doin'?"

Us: huh? "Um, we'd like to order now?"

Guy: "Cool."

Us: "Ok, we'd like a taco salad, two meat and cheese soft tacos, and a Nachos Bell Grande."

Guy: "Sweet. Ok, that's a taco salad, two meat and cheese soft tacos, and a Nachos Bell Grande. Do you want any cokes or anything to go with that?"

Us: "no thanks."

Guy: "Ok, well that'll be (insert total). Just pull up to the window. See ya later."

I don't think I've ever had anyone at the drive thru ask me how I was, nor has anyone ever said "see ya later" or anything more chatty than "Please pull forward". It just seemed strange.

I KNOW! Same thing happened to me the other day, at probably the very same Taco Bell. It was a weird feeling to have the guy say "how are you?" instead of "can I take your order?" Sure, it's nice and all, but we're not used to that level of customer service around here.

What does it all mean, when you're knocked on your butt by a service person asking how you are?

I think it was the new hair color!

Superchikk - Crazy, isn't it, that service people actually act like they care?! What is this world coming to? :)

Geek - sadly, it was my hubby ordering. He did recently get a new hair cut, though. Maybe it was that?

LOL... I think it's great. Sometimes people who worked somewhere for a while get bored and try spicing things up. Maybe he was having a really good day or maybe it's something in those special hot sauce packets ;-)

They do the same thing at the Starbucks drive through now. It caught me off guard at first too! I'm used to great customer service inside, but drive through? Another reason to continue my last remaining vice.

Oh, that is, besides wine.
